Webb to Try to Repeal Shreveport Fairness Ordinance

This information comes to us from PACE (People Acting for Change and Equality):

BeFairShreveportOn 10 December 2013, the Shreveport City Council passed 6-1 the “Shreveport Fairness Ordinance” prohibiting discrimination in the workplace, housing, and public accommodations based on sexual orientation and gender identity. On Friday, 20 December 2013, the lone dissenting voter — Ron Webb — will introduce an ordinance to repeal the fairness ordinance!

At the 10 December 2013 meeting, Webb unsuccessfully tried to postpone the vote and then used hateful language to speak against the ordinance. He used the “gays are an abomination” language, adding that he “worked with homosexuals but didn’t socialize with them and didn’t think we should.” Six of our seven council members stood up to this hateful rhetoric.

Please contact your city council member to ask him or her to continue to support the Shreveport Fairness Ordinance by voting against its repeal. Even if you have already thanked your council member for voting for the Shreveport Fairness Ordinance, please do so again.

The repeal vote will likely take place at the City Council meeting at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, 14 January 2014.
